Developing Tropical Cyclone To Impact Northern Vietnam

Kansas City, August 22, 2025 (World Weather Inc.) – A rapidly developing tropical cyclone west of Luzon Island, Philippines will move steadily to the west northwest this weekend while organizing and intensifying. The storm is expected to become a typhoon before reaching northern Vietnam and northern Laos late Sunday and mostly Monday. The storm may bring damaging wind and some flooding rainfall to the region north of Hue Vietnam and mostly from the Quang Tri area northward to the mouth of the Red River and then northwest from there through all of northern Laos. Some damage to personal property, agriculture and infrastructure is likely.

World Cotton Weather For Friday, August 22, 2025

Kansas City, August 22 (World Weather, Inc.) – World cotton production has been moving along relatively well this year. India, China and Pakistan have seen some very good weather and should yield relatively well. The U.S. Delta crop has struggled and rain in the dryland areas of West Texas has not been up to par in the most important southwest. Despite some erratic rain in Mexico and below normal rainfall in Mali, production from both Mexico and West Africa should be favorable this year. Rain prospects are good for Australia later in the year and the harvest of cotton in Brazil is advancing in a favorable environment.

Mexico Water Supply, Crops Improve Despite Erratic Rain

Kansas City, August 21 (World Weather Inc.) – June was one of the wettest months in many years in eastern and southern Mexico with Mexico City reporting the greatest monthly amount since 1968. More recent rainfall has become a little more lackluster with August rainfall becoming blotchy and largely inadequate to counter evaporation in the north. The latest report from Conagua (the National Water Commission) stated that water levels had risen from an average of 44% capacity in early June to 50% August 10. Another short term bout of improved rainfall was expected next week that may extend into early September and it will be very important since the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) suggested La Nina “may” return this autumn and winter possibly suppressing winter precipitation.

Western, Southeast Europe Dryness To Prevail In Coming Days

Kansas City, August 21 (World Weather Inc.) – A large section of Europe dried down during the past week due to drier and warmer than normal conditions. The Baltic States and neighboring areas still had favorable subsoil moisture supporting normal growth and development while conditions elsewhere deteriorated due to the drying. The need for timely rain is high in the near future to improve late-season development across western and southeastern Europe. Precipitation will be highly variable during the coming week with portions of France, southern Germany, and Eastern Europe receiving some rain. The rain will be welcome where it occurs, but will be too erratically distributed to improve long-term potentials across the continent.
