SE China Drying To Be Eased Long Before Crops Suffer

Kansas City, August 25 (World Weather Inc.) – Several pockets in southeastern China and the central Yangtze Basin dried down during the past week due to a lack of rain and periods of warmer-than-normal weather. These areas still had enough subsoil moisture to support growth and development, although rain is needed to reduce stress. The region will get timely rainfall in this coming week restoring soil moisture and ensuring that normal crop development continues. Most other areas in China experienced favorable weather in the past week and will experience a good mix of rain and sunshine over the next ten days that will bolster or keep soil moisture at adequate to excessive levels.

U.S. Cool Weather To Protect Summer Crop Yields

Kansas City, August 25 (World Weather Inc.) – Unseasonably cool weather in the U.S. Plains, Midwest and Delta may slow down crop development rates this week and early next week, but that may turn out to be a blessing for many areas. Soil moisture is quite limited in the Delta and the western Tennessee River Basin and some of that dryness has been creeping into Missouri, southern Illinois and other areas east into Ohio and Kentucky. The cool weather is going buy some of these drier areas some precious time this week by slowing down plant moisture demand and conserving subsoil moisture while soybean and late season corn are moving through the filling stage of development and beginning to mature. Yield potentials would likely slip notably lower if temperatures were warm to hot without rain in the drier areas, but keeping temperatures cool can make a huge difference while crops wait for greater rain next week.
