Tropical Storm Peipah Heading Into Southern Japan

Kansas City, April 1 (World Weather Inc.) – Tropical Storm Peipah recently evolved over the Pacific Ocean just south of Japan. The disturbance will rapidly advance from Kyushu into Shikoku and southern Honshu over the course of the day today and early Friday before shifting back to the ocean later Friday and this weekend. Heavy rain is slated for portions of southern Honshu, Shikoku, and eastern Kyushu which may promote flooding and landslides. Rice, soybean, and other crops are maturing or getting ready for harvest and the rain may lower quality in the wettest locations. Minor damage or losses will also be possible in areas that experience severe flooding.

India Remains Wet, Flood Potentials Remain High

Kansas City, September 3 (World Weather Inc.) – India’s monsoon again generated heavy rain for portions of India during the past week. Flooding was noted in portions of western and northern India – Punjab and coastal Maharashtra in particular. Wet weather in northern India may have reduced cotton and other early season crop quality. Some damage to agriculture may have occurred in areas of severe flooding. Monsoonal rainfall will prevail for much of the country outside the south through the middle of next week. Periods of heavy rain will occur in Gujarat and neighboring locations in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh during the next few days that may promote more flooding and additional crop and property damage will be possible. Overall, production potentials remain generally good across India; though, the need for drier weather will increase toward mid-September. The frequency of excessive rain may have reduced yields in some areas.

Hurricane Lorena Will Bring Rain To Northwestern Mexico

Kansas City, September 3 (World Weather Inc.) – Hurricane Lorena was located just south of Baja California, Mexico this afternoon. The system will slowly track north-northwesterly today and Thursday before potentially reaching Baja California Sur Friday. Many areas in northwestern Mexico will receive enough rain to improve the moisture profile, though the driest areas in Sonora will need additional rain to completely fix the drought. Some moisture from the storm may stream from northwestern Mexico into West Texas and Oklahoma. There is potential Lorena does not enter northwestern Mexico due to an unfavorable environment over the Pacific Ocean, which could reduce rain potentials in Sonora and neighboring locations, as well as in the southern U.S. Plains.

North America Cold Impact May Be Greater Than Expected

Kansas City, September 3 (World Weather Inc.) – Evidence continues to build over the potential for this week’s frost and freezes in the north-central United States and neighboring areas of Canada to be greater than advertised. There is a growing potential for more broad-based frost to occur from Saskatchewan, eastern Alberta and Manitoba, Canada into the northern U.S. Plains and upper Midwest. Predicted temperatures may not be cold enough and the impact on crops may end up being greater than expected.
