Northwest India Drying Down; Monsoon To Persist Elsewhere

Kansas City, September 18 (World Weather Inc.) – India’s monsoon is ongoing with significant rain noted in portions of eastern and extreme northern India, Telangana, Maharashtra, and neighboring locations during the past week. Localized flooding was noted in extreme northern India and may have occurred in the wettest locations of Maharashtra and the Eastern States as well. Crop conditions remained relatively favorable for much of India in recent days despite heavy rainfall for some. Northwestern India will receive little to no rain during the coming week, which will be beneficial for the earliest-planted crops that are maturing and being harvested. Other production areas will again have several opportunities for monsoonal rain that will keep the ground saturated.

Eastern Australia Spring, Early Summer May Be Wetter Biased

Kansas City, September 18 (World Weather Inc.) – Winter grain and oilseed prospects remain relatively favorable for Australia despite ongoing dryness in Queensland and portions of New South Wales. The main production areas received enough rainfall in recent weeks to maintain a good environment for new growth. Eastern Australia will have a few opportunities for spotty rain in the coming week while Western Australia and South Australia trend dry or mostly dry. Winter crop prospects will remain relatively favorable. With the Indian Ocean Dipole in its negative phase combined with the gradual evolution of La Nina later this year, there is potential that eastern Australia will become wetter than usual later this spring and summer while Western Australia is a little drier biased. The eastern rain would be welcome for the summer grains, oilseeds, and cotton while potentially impacting the harvest of the winter crops.
