Typhoon Matmo Weakening Near China/Vietnam Border

Kansas City, October 6 (World Weather Inc.) – Typhoon Matmo moved inland across the Leizhou Peninsula in southwestern Guangdong during the weekend producing wind speeds in excess of 100 mph and torrential rain. The storm has since drifted to the China/Vietnam border where it is expected to be for much of the day today. The system will be downgraded to tropical storm status soon and it will move into Yunnan, China Tuesday as a depression before becoming a remnant low pressure center. The storm has likely produced some damaging wind and flooding rain from southwestern Guangdong to southern Guangxi. Flooding rain is also suspected in northern Vietnam where some of that will continue throughout the day today.
