Texas Panhandle Rain Induces Temporary Relief From Dryness

Kansas City, August 28 (World Weather, Inc.) – Rain and cooler temperatures the past few days have improved conditions for cotton in the Texas Panhandle and portions of southwestern Oklahoma, but with at least another week of hot and mostly dry weather these improvements will be temporary. After weeks of hot to excessively hot temperatures and limited rain cotton, and other summer crops, suffered permanent damage and whatever improvements result from rain this week will not likely be dramatic. The rain was welcome for winter crops as well, but much of the moisture will soon be lost to evaporation leaving dryland areas in need of much more rain. Peanut harvesting should get off to a good start in early September.
