Tropical Depression Penha Barreling Toward Philippines

Kansas City, February 4 (World Weather Inc.) – Tropical Depression Penha recently evolved over the Pacific Ocean just east of Philippines. The disturbance will track toward Mindanao, Philippines today before slowly tracking west-northwesterly from southern into central Philippines Thursday through Saturday. Northern Mindanao and portions of the Visayan Islands will see periods of heavy rain that may promote localized flooding. Damage to unharvested rice, corn, and other crops will be possible, though overall production losses will likely be small. The disturbance will then likely enter the West Philippines Sea later this weekend and early next week.

Northwest Africa Will Receive Even More Rain

Kansas City, February 4 (World Weather Inc.) – Northwestern Africa’s main winter grain and oilseed areas again saw several waves of rain during the past week. The environment is much-improved from recent years due to waves of rain over the winter, most notably in Morocco where drought has been lifted. Winter wheat, barley, and rapeseed planting, establishment, and development conditions have been favorable. Yield potentials are much larger than recent years due to the improved situation in Morocco. The region will continue to have several opportunities for precipitation through at least the middle of next week that will maintain a good outlook for the crops.

Russia, Ukraine Winter Grains, Oilseeds Safe From Cold

Kansas City, February 3 (World Weather Inc.) – Periods of colder-than-usual weather impacted Russia, Ukraine, and neighboring areas during the past week. Snow was on the ground for much of the main winter grain and oilseed areas with exceptions for pockets in Russia’s lower Volga River Basin and a few locations near the Black Sea in Ukraine. Crops were either shielded from the cold or did not experience temperatures cold enough to damage crops. Arctic air will again slowly advance over the region during the next few days with another bout of arctic air possible early next week. No significant winterkill is expected despite a brief warm-up between arctic air masses.

Weekly Citrus Weather For Tuesday, February 3, 2026

Kansas City, February 3 (World Weather Inc.) – An outbreak of arctic air in eastern North America promoted widespread hard freezes in Florida’s citrus region in recent days. Producers took steps to protect citrus fruit and trees ahead of the cold snap, though temperatures were still cold enough for long enough to significantly damage both trees and unharvested fruit. Damage assessments will be made in the coming days or even weeks. There are concerns for significant production losses not only for this current season, but for upcoming seasons depending on the exact amount of trees that were impacted. Brazil’s citrus region saw spotty rain return during the past week. More significant rain will occur during the next seven days and citrus conditions will remain favorable. Mexico’s citrus areas will only have a few opportunities for spotty rain in the coming days.
