World Cotton Weather: Australia Production Down, Brazil Planting Complete

Kansas City, February 26 (World Weather, Inc.) – Cotton planting is complete in Brazil with early season crop emergence and establishment expected to advance well. Argentina crop conditions vary greatly due to varying soil conditions. In Australia, cotton has had a tough year in which some of the unirrigated western crops have suffered from excessive heat and dryness after planting was reduced in the spring. Spring prospects for cotton are looking favorable in the U.S. while there are some concerns building for India and Pakistan later this year and China’s Xinjiang region should see a relatively normal start to its planting season.

Australia Early-Season Harvest May Be Disrupted

Kansas City, February 25 (World Weather Inc.) – Several locations in eastern Australia and South Australia received varying amounts of rain during the past week. The rain was beneficial for the later-planted coarse grains, oilseeds, and cotton that are still in the development stages. Maturation and early-season harvesting also advanced with few disruptions outside areas that received the greatest amount of rain. There are still concerns for yield declines due to the extreme heatwave that impacted several locations earlier in the summer despite recent rainfall. A slow-moving disturbance will promote waves of rain for South Australia, Victoria, and portions of western and southern New South Wales during the coming week. Crops that are still in the developmental stages will welcome the additional rain and may see production potentials increase marginally. Queensland and other areas in New South Wales will miss out on much of the rain. Maturation and early-season harvesting will advance swiftly for these locations.
