Northern Plains Snowstorm To Slow Travel, Stress Livestock

Kansas City, April 2 (World Weather Inc.) – An expected trough of low pressure moving aloft over the north-central United States Friday and Saturday will bring substantial snowfall to the northern Plains. Snow accumulations will be great enough to shutdown travel in portions of the Dakotas and northern Minnesota and livestock stress is likely as well. The storm will not be followed by extreme cold which should help the animals deal with the storm, though still stressful.

April Weather Unlikely To Break Western N. America Dry Trend

Kansas City, April 1 (World Weather Inc.) – Western portions of North America are unlikely to break away from the drier-than-usual conditions that dominated the autumn and winter months. Most of the U.S. Rocky Mountain region, Great Basin and southwestern desert region will be drier than usual in April as will portions of southwestern Canada. Wetter-biased conditions are expected in the first part of April in the western Delta, southeastern Great Plains and a part of the Midwest, but the second half of the month should be drier biased once again as an old familiar weather pattern resumes. Temperatures will be warm in western parts of North America, cooler biased in eastern Canada and mild at times in the U.S. Midwest.

Southern China Flood Potentials Increasing

Kansas City, April 1 (World Weather Inc.) – Waves of rain were noted near and south of the Yangtze River during the past week. These areas will receive additional rain through the middle of next week that will further bolster soil moisture and raise the potential for at least some local flooding. The risk of flooding should be greatest for Jiangxi, Fujian, and neighboring areas. Fieldwork and early-season summer crop planting will advance slowly because of the wet weather. Winter rapeseed conditions in the Yangtze River Basin will remain relatively favorable as well; although, early maturing crops might become vulnerable to a quality decline if drier weather does not evolve later this month. Winter wheat prospects are favorable for much of the North China Plain despite many areas receiving little to no rain during the past week.

United States Bracing For Severe Weather, Snow

Kansas City, April 1 (World Weather Inc.) – An active spring-like weather pattern will impact parts of the United States agricultural areas in the coming days. Two upper-level disturbances will track across North America through the end of the weekend that will promote significant rain and storms for the Midwest and portions of the Delta and southeastern states. Significant amounts of snow will also fall in portions of the Northern Plains due to these disturbances. Early-season fieldwork may be delayed by the precipitation event and the cool weather that should follow keeping some fields wet a little longer. Localized flooding will be possible from Missouri into the central Midwest and some of the snowfall in the northern Plains will impact travel and stress livestock. The moisture will be welcome as many areas are still in a drought or abnormally dry. However, some of the resulting rainfall will be too light in the Delta and southeastern states end drought. Two waves of severe thunderstorms producing hail, damaging wind and tornadoes will occur today into Thursday and again Friday into Saturday from Texas to Iowa.

Brazil Harvest Will Continue Around Erratic Rainfall

Kansas City, April 1 (World Weather Inc.) – Rain was often scattered across Brazil’s main production areas during the past week. The precipitation helped maintain a good environment for safrinha corn establishment and early-season development in the main production areas of center-west and center-south Brazil. Harvesting of soybeans, first-season corn, and other crops likely advanced around the rain as well. Additional waves of rain are slated for Brazil this week. Rio Grande do Sul, Mato Grosso do Sul, and southern Mato Grosso will generally receive light rain and the harvest will advance swiftly. Safrinha corn establishment and growth conditions will remain relatively favorable as well, though the need for timely rain will remain high later in April.

Argentina Rain Disrupts Harvest, May Lower Crop Quality

Kansas City, March 31 (World Weather Inc.) – Rain fell a little too heavily in portions of Argentina during the past week causing a disruption to early season harvest progress. Additional rain over this next seven days promises more disruption and raises the potential for unharvested sunseed quality declines. Most other crops may “weather” the rainy conditions relatively well; though net drying must evolve soon to protect all crops from a potential quality decline and to get crop maturation and harvesting back on track.

Canadian Prairies Seeing Slow Start To Spring Season

Kansas City, March 31 (World Weather Inc.) – Planting for the Canadian Prairies is still several weeks from beginning. Precipitation varied over the winter with much of Manitoba and portions of eastern and southern Saskatchewan, southern Alberta, and Peace River country trending drier than normal. Snow is on the ground in much of crop country and some of the moisture will eventually seep down into the soil in the coming weeks as warming brings on the snow melt season. Despite the potential for some improvement to the moisture profile in April, many areas in the Prairies will potentially enter the planting abnormally dry of in drought. Temperatures will often trend near to below normal for at least the next seven days and potentially through mid-April. Snow melt will be gradual during this time and there will also be additional periods of snow in the coming weeks that will slow the melting process. Fieldwork will likely get off to a sluggish start in the coming weeks as the snow slowly melts.

Weekly Citrus Weather for Tuesday, March 31, 2026

Kansas City, March 31 (World Weather Inc.) – Florida’s citrus region saw a mix of rain and sunshine during the past week. Rainfall helped improve the moisture profile in several locations, though the rain was too light to completely erase the drought that is prevalent across the state. Periods of spotty rain will continue during the coming week. Resulting rainfall will again be too light to significantly improve soil moisture. The need for significant rain will remain high later in April. Brazil’s citrus areas saw a mix of rain and sunshine during the past week. Periodic rain will continue during the coming week and citrus conditions will remain relatively favorable. Mexico’s citrus areas will have several opportunities for rain during the coming week. Citrus flowering and fruit setting will improve or remain relatively favorable.
